hi there! My name is Katie Ingham and I’m an artist based in the uk.
My journey has been a lengthy one, starting as an illustrator, then painter then sculptor, now I’ve decided I’ll try anything creative! Portraits, silly little sculptures, makeup and performance, anything at all that I can sink my teeth into, I’m there in a heartbeat.
I wanted to be able to document my whole portfolio in one easy to access place, everything from doodles to full makeup transformations. Social media is exhausting, but I need a place to slap my thoughts and projects on to. That’s where this site comes in.
so, what do I do?
character design
As I began my creative practice I often made my own original characters. Most of the time, I created these characters just for the fun of it, because I love faces, I love making new ones, I churned them out like a well oiled machine. they were all one offs, I never thought much of them, then I made Ludwig and Quinn, closely followed by Gabriel. Suddenly it became more than just doodling pretty faces, I started giving them names, personalities, and I found myself giving each character traits I myself had, but hated talking about. In giving these traits their own faces, i felt separate from them, it became much easier to articulate certain struggles when they were the struggles of a fictional character.
The creation, and continued use of these characters throughout my art journey has been a key element to the way in which my practice has evolved.
Portraiture
As you might expect, my favorite things to paint are faces, fantastical oil portraits of friends and family (and myself) and, my more popular works, watercolour and pencil pet portraits! (They just so happen to be my favorite kind of commissions, especially dogs.)
Makeup
Starting with experiments with cosplay, makeup slowly but surely worked its way into my art practice. As my personal style developed, I became more comfortable with my ability to use my face as the canvas, experimenting with photography, sculptural wigs, props and performance.
The Curiosities
My curiosities have definitely become my main priority within my practice, not only do they bring me immeasurable joy to make and look at their silly little faces, but they also seem relatively popular gifts! whether they are directly from me to a friend or family member, or from a commissioner to one of their lucky loved ones, anyone that values childlike whimsy and/or mildly unsettling little guys will love these curious creatures! Perhaps you or someone you know might benefit from taking a peek at my curiosities…..
