characters

Character design and development has always played a massive role in my creative practice. By creating my own characters I have been able to come to terms with the sides of myself I previously had trouble understanding, overcome challenges and freely experimented with different art practices and media.

My main cast of characters that continue to make appearances in my work where brought to life as a means to humanize elements of myself I found difficult to understand or acknowledge as “me”. Once i had come to terms and accepted these parts of myself, I began giving the characters their own stories and personalities. Admittedly, many of my characters where initially designed to appear drained, bruised and broken, the reflection of how i felt about myself at the time, the first step in the process of fully fleshing out the characters was to heal them.

I am currently in the (incredibly slow) process of writing up a little story about my newly healed characters, and the relationships between each other.
